The rising cost of diesel fuel and the requirements of current emission regulations mean that operators of older diesel engines face increasing problems. The use of natural gas instead of diesel has clear benefits in terms of costs and emissions. The ARTEMIS dual fuel system from HEINZMANN provides customised solutions for converting a wide range of engines and applications from diesel to gas operation.

HEINZMANN has many years’ experience in dual fuel conversion. Sophisticated systems guarantee low investment costs, maximum efficiency, reliable operation and minimum service requirements.

HEINZMANN dual fuel systems require just minor modifications to the engine itself and allow the engine to run on diesel again at any time. This ensures that the engine will remain available even if there is no gas. Relatively low conversion costs ensure high amortisation rates with significantly reduced fuel costs.

Mixer-based systems represent low-cost solutions for smaller, fast-running diesel engines, and have a conversion rate of up to 70 %. In slower-running large engines, the gas injection technique can achieve a gas percentage of over 80 %. In this case, each cylinder is operated under ideal conditions. Monitoring a wide range of engine operating data facilitates a maximum gas percentage whilst simultaneously ensuring a high degree of operating reliability. The characteristic map-based control system of both the diesel and the gas sides ensures the best possible conversion rate at all the operating points of the engine. In addition to using natural gas, the dual fuel system can also be operated using biogases or synthetic gases.

In addition to stationary applications involving generators or compressors, for example, solutions for vehicles are also available. These are based primarily on gas admission valves and are easy to retrofit to almost any engine. Driving characteristics are not impaired in any way during gas operation. If gas runs out, the system automatically switches to diesel operation.

For all applications, HEINZMANN offers complete solutions which also include the gas train, the switch cabinet and monitoring devices. Additional functions such as knock control, misfiring detection and generator management are available as options.
