Accurate dosage

Press article HEINZMANN (September, 2011)

An accurate dosage is guaranteed, regardless of the speed travelled by agricultural machinery from AMAZONE-WERKE H. Dreyer GmbH & Co. KG., by the tailored disc motors from HEINZMANN. These are specially adapted to meet the requirements of modern seed drilling and fertiliser application.

Long gone are the times when the farmer estimated dosage according to the number of grains in his hand, the range covered by his throw and his length of step. With modern agricultural technology, specific quantities are now dispensed with mechanical precision. Special dosing devices powered by HEINZMANN motors make sure of it. AMAZONE, a company that has been manufacturing agricultural machinery for well over a century, has placed its trust in the proven electrical full dosing process. With the large-area seed drill  Cayena, for example, the output per hectare is entered in kilos at the operating terminal. The radar-controlled sowing quantity and operating speed then determine the output speed of the metering roller. Any dosage inaccuracies, i.e. should ground conditions change, are avoided thanks to a dosing process that adapts to speed.

Special requirements

"Significant demands are made on the motors as a result of the various driving speeds," explains Klaus Brüggemann, Design Engineer at AMAZONE. "However, the torque required for the dosage of seed or fertiliser remains practically the same," he continues. Drives with a high power density are thus required here which, at two revolutions per minute, offer the same torque regardless of speed. Furthermore, there are special requirements to be met in terms of current consumption. The twelve-volt batteries of the traction unit power the mobile work machinery, which is why current consumption must be kept correspondingly low.

Suitable solution

One reason AMAZONE sought a solution in disc motors was because of their flat shape, which allows for a compact design of the dosing units. In addition to their dimensional advantages, the "disc rotors" also boast an impressive price-performance ratio. Keeping up-to-date with these current requirements, HEINZMANN has also added a brush version of drives to its large selection of standard products. "The impressive and easily adjustable HEINZMANN drives are sturdy enough to withstand the toughest of conditions out in the field, regard-less of whether in the stubble, in damp or loamy ground, or in dusty and stony conditions," concludes Brüggemann.

In the Electric Drives division, HEINZMANN develops and produces a variety of drive systems based on disc and wheel hub motors. These motors are used in everything from special purpose machinery manufacture to medical technology to battery-powered light vehicles. HEINZMANN offers entire product lines of disc motors, with and without brushes, that cover a wide range of application requirements. Client-specific solutions, such as the dosing procedure in the agricultural machinery of AMAZONE, are one of HEINZMANN's particular strong points.
