Application of Hybrid Drives

A collaboration between Deutz AG, construction machinery manufacturer ATLAS WEYHAUSEN and HEINZMANN resulted in the world’s first functioning wheel loader with a hybrid drive which was launched at the BAUMA exhibition in 2007.

It was based on the so-called Y-cycle which represents a typical wheel loader application profile. This typically consists of frequent acceleration and braking phases together with short peak load phases. These characteristics are an ideal basis for hybridising a vehicle, with the result that just optimising the interaction between the diesel engine and the electric motor achieves consumption savings of 15 %.
